I’ve seen smiles ranging from polite gestures to tired ones, from victory to surrender.
Some of them were like blinking lights bright, yet gone too quickly.
Some were only mouth-shapes with nothing moving underneath.
But Sarina’s smile… it wasn’t for show, and it wasn’t an escape.
It felt like it revealed a quiet truth I’d lost a long time ago.
And, to my surprise, I realized how close “just seeing” and “being saved” can actually be.

The café door opened again… but this time, no one came in like a rainy visitor.
Sarina left quietly, unknowingly, as if she’d already known she wasn’t meant to stay.
I can still hear her in my mind before I’ve even heard her voice… and all that remains is silence.
The place is full of that smile no longer on her face, but in my eyes.
My feet don’t move, because somewhere inside me something has lit up.
I’m alone, but I’m not because the echo of that light is still breathing within me.

When the café emptied, silence settled on the chairs and weighed more on my shoulders.
I was alone, yet my mind kept lighting up like a dim lamp.
I looked closely not at a place, but at that smile.
At the curve of lips that had risen so naturally, at the soft shadow on her cheeks, at that brief sparkle in her eyes.
Now that smile wasn’t just a moment anymore… it had turned into a memory.
And I understood why my hands trembled without my permission like they wanted to relearn something.

It felt like that smile was a key turning in some hidden lock of my heart.
Many doors had always been closed not with violence, but with forgetting.
Now they opened one by one, very gently, like breathing.
Memories returned: laughs that had once been lost somewhere far away.
Colors I thought were dead began to breathe again.
And I realized, like someone who finally finds an exit, that you can still pass through this darkness.

Slowly, something in me stirred.
Not like an explosion more like waking from a long sleep.
My heart was beating later than usual, but this time it wasn’t meaningless.
Inside me, like a brush that had been asleep for too long, sensation started to move again.
From the deepest part of my chest, a small light rose up just to remind me: I’m alive.
And that alone was enough to push the old fears back a little.

I thought maybe that same key could work somewhere else too.
I leaned toward the shelves, reaching for papers I’d forgotten.
Books, scraps of color, and a small box full of memories.
Among them, I searched for a sign an old photo.
A picture that might hold a smile similar to hers not exactly, but close.
And inside my chest, I turned hope like a page like there might be something hidden beneath it.

I opened the box… and even if I didn’t find anything, something had already changed.
The air in the room felt brighter somehow.
My heart wanted to write again, to paint again, to begin again not to prove anything to anyone, but to stay alive.
My lips moved silently, like a prayer between breaths:
“Not yet… it’s not too late.”
And that sentence settled inside me like a small promise.

For the first time in a long while, I didn’t run I walked toward the canvas.
Its white surface stood before me like a silence waiting to be filled.
I took the colors out one by one: a tired blue, a faint yellow, a muted white…
But my hand lingered on one shade longer than the rest: a warm light, something between gold and hope.
It felt like Sarina’s smile was still breathing at my fingertips.
And I understood that some colors aren’t chosen with the eyes, but with the heart.

I picked up the brush, and when the first stroke touched the canvas, something inside me settled too.
It wasn’t perfect, and it wasn’t clean but it was alive.
The next lines came more softly; the curve of lips, the shadow of a cheek, and that tiny glimmer that belonged in the eyes.
I didn’t know whether I was painting her, or only tracing what had remained inside me.
But every brushstroke felt like a fresh breath.
And slowly, the canvas began learning how to smile.

Little by little, the world stepped back from around me.
I could no longer hear the clock, the rain, or even my own exhaustion.
It was just me and the canvas, me and the colors, me and what was taking shape.
A quiet but real excitement moved through my veins.
I hadn’t felt this kind of focus in a long time that sweet kind of getting lost in creation.
And what a strange miracle it is when, for a few moments, you find yourself by making something new.
